This session primarily focuses on Leisure resources  and its sub category personal resources. Leisure resource focuses on the fact that participants may not be aware of the resource that they can use to get access to leisure activities. Working on leisure resources skills allow clients to gain the independence to go out and find accessible leisure activity for them to  perform in their own free time. With personal resources this activity focuses on using what the participants already have access to which is some type of internet access and public transportation.With these resources clients can figure out how to get to leisure activity within their means

Length of Session

60 minutes

Session Preparation

  • Materials:

    • 1 Ball

    • 8 Pencils

    • 8 Pieces Paper

    • 2 prizes ( i.e. snack)

  • Location:

    • Wide indoor space with open area to perform stretches and ball toss. The space should have tables to lay the pencil and paper on and seats for participants to sit down to perform the activity

Session Goals

TPO: Through participation in Make Your Move participants will demonstrate the knowledge and benefits of physical activity as well as the ability to participate and plan a physical leisure activity.


EO 1:  To demonstrate continued participation in physical activities through intrinsic motivation.


PM 1.3: During sessions 3’s  introduction participants will discuss one physical activity they did the week previous.

PM 1.4: During session 3’s “The places we’ll go” activity, participants will identify at least two accessible locations in the community to engage in a leisure activity of interest.


EO 3: To demonstrate acquired knowledge and skills to independently facilitate physical activity.

PM 3.3: During session 3’s activity Using “the places we’ll go method,participants will independently search for one location to perform physical activities near their residence.

PM 3.4: During session 3’s debriefing participants will discuss at least one reason why leisure planning skills are important.

Session Sequence

Sequence of Session 3

 Introduction (15 mins)

  • Facilitator will welcome back participants for the 3rd session of Make Your Move

  • Facilitator will discuss how today the group will be the ‘Wellness Check’ , stretches, an activity called the places we will go for a brief discussion and closing.

  • Facilitator will discuss how this session connects to the previous session as it is focusing on finding resources to do activities as done in the previous sessions.

  • Facilitator will introduce a ball toss and detail to the group that this is the time to discuss whether they like high intensity workouts, any independent activity done the week before, the previous spin class from session 2 and anything else they find important.

  • Facilitator will prepare the class for ball toss by prompting participants to form a circle  . 

  • Facilitator will instruct participants to pass the ball to the person to their right  and to only speak when the ball is passed to them. 

  • After everyone has been passed the ball the Facilitator will introduce stretches to class

  • The facilitator will instruct class to all stand in a single horizontal line arms length apart from each other.

  • Facilitator will start leading a series of stretching. First shoulder rolls, overhead stretch , quad stretch ,toe touch stretch.

  • Facilitator will close out the intro and announce to the group that they will move forward to the places we‘ll go activity.

Activity (30 mins)

  • Facilitator will ask participants to take a seat at a table.

  • Facilitator will describe the  place we will go as a planning activity that will help  participants  achieve  the overall goal to be able to independently plan activities.

  • Facilitator will describe how the places we will go uses google and maps as a resource to find and plan trips. 

  • Facilitator will then show the group how to use these resources. 

  • The facilitator will first go to google and search up roller skating near me.

  • Facilitator will then click on the first link listed and agree to be taken to Google maps. 

  • Facilitator will then click on the traveling  option and click on the public transport icon to see if it is accessible that way.(2or less means of public transportation)

  • If not, the facilitator will check the next option until the goal is reached. 

  • Facilitator will then go back to Google and find the locations website.

  • Facilitator will check  for hours of operation, pricing and or special deals . 

  • Facilitator will then explain how they want each participant to two find places to perform activities using this method.

  • Facilitator will describe the rules of the game.

    •  must find a place that takes no more than 2  methods of public transportation and no more than 30 minute  commute. 

    • The place must operate after school hours or during the weekend. 

    • The cost must not be above $15.00.

  • Facilitator will then instruct participants to write down these categories and search for a  Spin class that fits all these criteria. 

  • Facilitator will then instruct participants to raise their hand when they complete the task or need help. 

  • Facilitator will go around checking answers and asking questions.

  • Facilitator will note down who answered correctly first and after everyone is done announce  winner and give a prize 

  • Facilitator will then ask participants to use this same method to find a yoga class. 

  • Facilitator will copy the checking steps listed 

  • After this portion the  facilitator will ask the group to find one physical activity they are interested in using this method near their residence.

Debriefing (10 mins)

  • Facilitator will lead debriefing questions that discuss the purpose of the activity. The overall interest in performing the activity.

    • Why is it important to know how to plan activities?

    • What are some places you are interested in finding ways to get to?

    • Name one activity that you would be interested in participating in and why ?

Closing (5 mins)

  • Facilitator will close out the session.

  • Facilitator will ask the group if they have any questions or closing thoughts.

  • Facilitator will assign the group to do a physical activity next week 

  • Facilitator will tell the group that Zumba will be performed in the next session.

  • Facilitator will thank the group for participating and say “goodbye”.
