Session Sequence

Sequence of Session 2

 Introduction (15 mins)

  • Facilitator will welcome back the participants for the 2nd session of Make your Move

  • Facilitator discusses how the group will be doing ball tosses, stretches, a beginner-intermediate  spin workout, a discussion, and closing today

  • Facilitator will discuss how last class we were introduced to 5 different types of workouts and today we will be focusing on one

  • Facilitator will introduce a ball toss and this week the participants will discuss three of their favorite songs and how they are feeling about today’s class.

  • The facilitator will add each song said by the participants into a Spotify playlist

  • The facilitator will prepare the class for the ball toss by prompting participants to form a circle.

  • Facilitator instructs the class to pass the ball to the person to their right and only speaks when the ball is passed to them.

  • After every participant has gotten the ball the facilitator will then introduce the stretches for today.

  • The facilitator will instruct the class to all stand in a single horizontal line arm's length apart from each other.

  • Facilitator will start leading a series of stretching. First shoulder rolls, overhead stretch, quad stretch,toe-touch stretch.

  • Facilitator will close out the intro and announce to the group that they will move forward to spin the workout.

Activity (30 mins)

  • Facilitator asks participants to all go to the two rows of five bikes and for everyone to pick a bike.

  • Each bike needs to be adjusted by participants' height by turning and pulling knobs of the handlebar the seat itself and pulling the straps tighter or looser to place feet in the petals.

  • Facilitator walks around to offer assistance and will return to the front when each participant has successfully adjusted the bike.

  • The facilitator tells everyone if they have not already gone, to get on the bike and to start to petal it to be more comfortable with it.

  • The facilitator will then open the Spotify playlist and connect to the speaker with the participant's favorite songs to play while doing this workout.

  • The facilitator explains that the knob at the front of the bike is how they add and take away resistance to make it easier or harder to pedal. Participants can do this by turning the knob to the right to make it harder.

  • The facilitator says to add resistance to turn this knob.

  • The facilitator explains that the two positions they will be in are sitting with hands on the bike in the second position and standing with feet pedaling and hands-on the bike in the other.

  • The facilitator then begins the 30-minute spin workout. Encourages participants to do the best they can and to add what resistance is comfortable and take breaks if they need it.

  • The facilitator follows the workout plan from the reference sheet.

  • When participants are finished with the 30-minute spin workout the facilitator encourages a quick water break.

Debriefing (10 mins)

  • The facilitator will lead debriefing questions to discuss today's session, to talk about what the participants think of high-intensity workout with music.

    • What did you think about this high-intensity workout?

    • Can you share one physical activity you have not tried but would like to?

    • What are three pros of engaging in physical activity?

    • Did you like the music you worked out to?

Closing (5 mins)

  • Facilitator will close up the session

  • Facilitator will ask the group if they have any closing thoughts.

  • The Facilitator encourages the group to share 5 benefits of physical activity with two friends or family members for homework.

  • Facilitator tells the group that next week we will be doing a planning activity called “The Places We’ll go”!

  • Facilitator will thank the group for participating and say  “goodbye”.
