This session primarily focuses on  leisure activity skill, traditional leisure.The main activity done is Zumba which falls into the dance content for traditional leisure. Doing traditional  leisure activity not only makes participants do physical activity in the moment. It also  allows participants to figure out if they like the activity and if they want to do it on their own independent time.

Length of Session

60 minutes

Session Preparation

  • Materials:

    • 1 WiFi-connected  speaker (song listed in references)

    • 1Phone

    • 1 Ball

    • 1Case of Bottled Water

  • Location:

    • Wide indoor space with an open area to perform stretches and ball toss. The space should have tables to lay the pencil and paper on and seats for participants to sit down to perform the activity

Session Goals

TPO: Through participation in Make Your Move participants will demonstrate the knowledge and benefits of physical activity as well as the ability to participate and plan a physical leisure activity.


EO1:  To demonstrate continued participation in  physical activities through intrinsic motivation.

       PM 1.5  : During  session 4’s Zumba activity  participants will  lead the class in one dance movement they enjoyed doing.

       PM 1.6: During session 4’s debriefing participants will discuss one song they would like to perform Zumba to.

EO 2 : To demonstrate awareness and understanding of the purpose and benefits of engaging in physical activity.

       PM 2.5: During session 4’s debriefing participants will discuss one way they feel physically as judged by the ctrs.

       PM 2.6 : During session 4 ‘s debriefing participants  will discuss 1emotion this activity makes them feel as judged by the ctrs.

Session Sequence

Sequence of Session 4

 Introduction (15 mins)

  • Facilitator will welcome the group to session 4 to make your move.

  • Facilitator will discuss how the day’s session will consist of ball toss ,stretching ,doing Zumba and closing out class. 

  • Facilitator will discuss how this session relates to the goals of the previous sessions as this session focuses on finding an activity that they will enjoy to plan for independent use.

  • Facilitator will announce to the participants that in the  next session  two participant will plan a 10 minute activity for the class to  do.

  • Facilitator will choose  2 participants to create an activity.

  • Facilitator will introduce a ball toss and detail to the group that this is the time to discuss session’s 3 homework, of doing a independent  physical activity and anything else they  find important to discuss 

  • Facilitator will prepare the class for ball toss by prompting participants to form a circle  . 

  • Facilitator will instruct participants to pass the ball to the person to their right  and to only speak when the ball is passed to them.After everyone has been passed the ball the Facilitator will introduce stretches to class

  • The facilitator will instruct class to all stand in a single horizontal line arms length apart from each other.

  • Facilitator will start leading a series of stretching :shoulder rolls, overhead stretch, quad stretch, toe touch stretch.

  • Facilitator will close out the intro and announce to the group that they will move forward to the Zumba activity.

Activity (30 mins)

  • Facilitator will ask participants to double the space between them.

  • Facilitator will describe Zumba as a type of fitness dance program. 

  • The facilitator will discuss how Zumba is a fun way to be active and relates to the previous session's goals as Zumba can be an activity participants may want to plan to do independently.

  • Facilitator will be following Zumba steps.

  •  Facilitator will first do each step  without music and ask participants to follow along.

  1. Facilitator will cross arms down, move to the left , uncross arms up and snap.

  2. Facilitator will cross arms down, move to the right and uncross arm up and snap.

  3. Facilitator will raise right arm, raise pointer finger  and slowly  move arm down. 

  4. Facilitator will raise the left  arm, raise the pointer finger  and slowly  move the arm down. 

  5. Facilitator will repeat steps above  4 times.

  6. Facilitator will pump the right arm down and simultaneously bring up  their left leg.

  7. Facilitator will pump the left arm down and simultaneously bring up  their right leg.

  8. Facilitator will pump their chest to the right.

  9. Facilitator will pump the left arm down and simultaneously bring up  their right leg.

  10. Facilitator will pump the right arm down and simultaneously bring up  their left leg.

  11. Facilitator will pump their chest to the left.

  12. The facilitator will swing their left arm to the right of their chest.

  13. The facilitator will swing right arm to the left side of the chest.

  14. The facilitator will criss cross their arms then uncross them.

  15. The facilitator will move their hands in a wave like motion.

  16. The facilitator will repeat the 12-15

  17. The facilitator will move their left hand like they are steering a  car 

  18. 18. The facilitator will move their right hand like they are steering a  car.

  19. The facilitator will pump their right hand.

  20. The facilitator will pump their left hand.

  21. The facilitator will join their hand together and run them over their head.

  22. The facilitator will repeat all  the steps above.

  • Facilitator will then turn on the music, instruct participants to follow their lead, and do the dance steps listed above.

  • After the dance is complete, the facilitator will instruct the class to take a break for five minutes in which they can get water provided for them or sit down .

  • Facilitator will call back the group to perform the dance again.

  • After the dance is completed the facilitator will ask the group to get around into a circle.

  •  Facilitator will ask each participant to perform  their favorite dance move.

Debriefing (10 mins)

Facilitator will ask participants the questions listed below to help them connect the session to their overall goal.

  • Would you enjoy doing this activity in your free time?

  • What song would you like to perform a Zumba dance to?

  • After doing this activity what is one emotion that you feel ?

  • After doing this activity what is one thing you feel physically ?

  • What are the benefits to participating in this activity?

Closing (5 mins)

  • Facilitator will thank participants for participating in the day's session.

  • Facilitator will  ask the participants if they have any closing comments,

  • Facilitator will ask participants to do a leisure activity  for the weekend.

  • Facilitator will remind the chosen participants to choose an activity.

  • Facilitator will discuss the next week's session activity destination location.

  • Facilitator will thank participants for coming to session 4 and say “goodbye”.
