Under Leisure Resources, this section is designed to highlight components such as activity opportunities, personal resources, family and home resources, community resources, and state and national resources. Leisure Resources is the fourth component of the Leisure Education Content Model and is the importance of locating resources and assisting the client in gaining independence through the use of these resources. Independent leisure lifestyle requires seeking information and appropriately using it.

Length of Session

60 minutes

Session Preparation

  • Materials

    • 3 maps of the community

    • at least 2 technology devices (iPhone/iPad or computers)

    • 4 total (2 at each table printed out PDFs of ‘Directions and Tips for Destination Location Activity’)


  • Location:

    • Two stations will be set up on opposite sides of the room. Both stations will have a table and chairs available for seating. Maps of the community will be laid out on the table on one side of the room, while the technology for research will be available on the other table at the opposite side of the room.​

  • Preparation:

    • From midpoint (this week) to the end of the program, one or two participant(s) a week will be responsible to plan a 10-minute physical activity for the group to participate in. Before the start of the session, the individual has been previously notified by the CTRS and has a physical activity prepared for this session. Activities may include yoga, light stretching, or anything of interest and considered to be physical activity.

Session Goals

TPO: Through participation in Make Your Move participants will demonstrate the knowledge and benefits of physical activity as well as the ability to participate and plan a physical leisure activity.

EO 1: To demonstrate continued participation in physical activities through intrinsic motivation.

     PM 1.1: During session 5’s wellness check-in, each participant will share with the group a list of 5 meaningful physical activities they are interested in engaging in.

     PM 1.2: During session 5 activity, participants will identify at least two accessible locations in the community to engage in a leisure physical activity of interest.

EO 2: To demonstrate acquired knowledge and skills to independently facilitate physical activity.

     PM 2.1: From session 5 to the end of the program one to two participant(s) a week will plan one 10-minute physical activity for the whole group to do.

     PM 2.2: By the end of session 5 activity, participants will have the skills to give step-by-step instructions on traveling to at least one accessible location for physical activity engagement.

Session Sequence

Sequence of Session 5

 Introduction (15 mins)

  • Facilitator will welcome participants to the 5th session of Make Your Move while being seated in a circle.

  • After participants are seated, the 15-minute wellness check-in will begin by a light ball being passed around the circle. When the participant is holding the ball, they will introduce themselves and are encouraged by the facilitator to share their list of 5 meaningful activities of interest (PM 1.1) from previous sessions with the group.

  • Facilitator will explain today’s goals, which are to participate in a 10-minute physical activity lead by a group member/s, identify two accessible locations in the community that offer engagement in physical activities of interest, and create step-by-step instructions on traveling to at least one accessible location for physical activity engagement.

  • In preparation for today’s activity, participants will discuss their physical activities with those who shared similar interests.

Activity (30 mins)

  • Facilitator will ask everyone to remain seated after the 15-minute wellness check in and one or two person(s) will share a physical activity plan they have made for the group to engage in.

  • Facilitator will remind everyone from this point in the program until the end, the group will participate in a 10-minute physical activity during each session put together by a group member(s).

  • The group will participate in the chosen activity of the group member(s).

  • After the group has finished the 10-minute activity, participants will then group together in two groups of five people.

  • Facilitator will instruct one group to sit at a table set up to look at maps of the community.

  • Facilitator will instruct the other group to sit across the room at another table set up to research places in the community and their accessibility on devices.

  • Facilitator will set timers for 10 minutes while the groups will visit one table at a time for 10 minutes, visiting each table once.

  • Facilitator will encourage participants to be the first to create step-by-step instructions on traveling to at least one accessible location for physical activity engagement.

  • Facilitator will make a list of the first 3 people who can provide step-by-step instructions for them to later share with the group.

  • Facilitator will provide each group with directions and tips at each table, as found in the references.

  • Facilitator will mention directions and tips for locating will be set up at each table and the group can review them together.

  • Facilitator will be floating back and forth between tables to answer or clarify any questions/concerns and provide help when necessary.

  • Facilitator will direct everyone’s attention back to the front of the room for debriefing and closing after the 30-minute activity.

Debriefing (10 mins)

  • The participants are asked to stay at their tables to reflect on the following questions and share with at least one person near them for 10 minutes:

    • ​Did you find an activity in the community that is interesting and was not previously listed? What was it?

    • What barriers did you encounter when listing step-by-step instructions for traveling? How did you solve one barrier?

    • Can future participation in these activities be facilitated? How?

Closing (5 mins)

  • Facilitator will direct everyone’s attention to the front of the room for five minutes to close out session 5.

  • Facilitator will remind the participants from this week forward, until the end of the program, one participant a week will be responsible to plan one 10-minute physical activity for the group to engage in during the session.

  • Facilitator will prepare participants for the next session, “Teacher Time” by mentioning before the start of the next (6th) session, participants will be asked days prior to invite a peer or at least one person outside of the program to attend and offer support during the session. Peers can include friends, family members boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.

  • Facilitator will thank the group for attending and participating in today’s session and dismiss the group.
