Make Your Move

The last session from the Leisure Education Content Model will focus on the topic of Leisure Awareness, specifically Knowledge of Leisure. By the end of the program, participants will be able to understand the concept of leisure and it’s relation to quality of life. Furthermore, each participant will have the confidence in order to share with the rest of the class their physical activity that they plan to carry on after the program.

Location:
An outdoor space with adequate lighting and enough room for participants to be able to move. Facilitator will bring 10 hula hoops, 10 jump ropes, 10 mats to put aside for the participants to grab when they arrive.

Preparation:
From week 7, to the end of the program, one to two participants a week will be responsible to plan a 10-minute physical activity for the group to participate in. Before the start of the session, the individual has been previously notified by the CTRS and has a physical activity prepared for this session. Activities may include yoga, light stretching, or anything of interest and considered to be physical activity.
Session Goals
TPO: Through participation in Make Your Move participants will demonstrate the knowledge and benefits of physical activity as well as the ability to participate and plan a physical leisure activity.

EO 1: To demonstrate continued participation in physical activities through intrinsic motivation.
PM 1.1: At the end of Make Your Move each participant will identify three meaningful physical activities for continued engagement.
PM 1.2: Without any additional assistance, the participant will have already visited the location of a physical activity and be able to create a schedule of when the individual will be participating in the activity as well as the frequency of it.

EO 2: To demonstrate acquired knowledge and skills to independently facilitate physical activity.
PM 2.1: By the endpoint of the program, each participant will decide on a meaningful leisure activity that is of interest and independently plan for future participation.
PM 2.2: Without any additional assistance, the participant will be able to identify where to participate in a meaningful physical activity as well as the transportation of how to attend the activity by the end of week 8 of Make Your Move.
Session Sequence
Sequence of Session 8
Introduction (15 mins)
Facilitator will welcome back participants to the 8th and final session of Make Your Move.
Faciliator will leave out the ball for the ball toss and give verbal cues, if needed for participants to initiate wellness check-in.
Facilitator will observe participants and provide minimal gestrual or verbal cues, if needed for participants to continue with weekly wellness check-in.
Facilitator will stand in front of the participants. By this point, the participants should be able to independently form 2 rows of 5 facing the facilitator and be ready to stretch.
Facilitor will stand by and jump in if participants need a reminder about what stretches the participants will do.
Facilitator should expect independence from participants to know how to complete the introduction portion of the session including everything from forming a circle to the stretches at the end of the introduction.
Facilitator will close out the introduction and announce to the group that they will move forward to the peer-led physical activity demonstration.
Activity (30 mins)
Facilitator will ask everyone to remain seated after the 15 minute wellness check in and one or two person(s) will share a physical activity plan they have made for the group to engage in.
The group will participate in the chosen activity of the group member(s).
Facilitator will prompt and introduce the showcase poriton, as previously instructed by particiapnts in week 7, for all participants to explain what physical activity they plan to do in the future.
Participants will take turns giving a 5-minute presentation about what physical activity they plan to do for the future, lead demonstration of some moves that they will expect to participate in (i.e. Yoga poses or Zumba movements), inform participants of where they will be attending the physical activity, how the participants will be getting there, as well as resources and locations for continued engagement.
Each participant will actively engage in their peer’s demonstration as everyone will take turns.
Participants should feel comfortable and excited about their future physical activity.
Facilitator will add verbal encouragement and positive reinforcement throughout the entire showcase to further get participants excited and engaged about their future physical activity.
Once everyone has shared their future physical activity, the facilitator will close out the session and instruct participants to form in a group for the debreifing.
Debriefing (10 mins)
The facilitator will lead debriefing questions to discuss today’s sessions in order to converse about what the participants thought out of the session and the activity. The questions will focus as a reflection about the program as a whole as well as how the participants will take what they learned and apply it to the future.
The facilitator will use the modality of reminisce to discuss past experiences from weeks 1 and 2 to reiterate goals and how far all the participants have accomplished.

Closing (5 mins)
Facilitator will close out the session.
Facilitator will connect the phone to Spotify and play the playlist created during Session 2 to create an energetic, positive atmosphere.
Facilitator will ask the group if they have any questions or closing thoughts.
Facilitator will prompt each participant to share emails, phone numbers, or social media accounts to stay in touch with peers.
Facilitator will take a group photo with everyone.
Participants should feel a sense of accomplishment and excitement to independently enjoy their future physical leisure activity.
